Since 2003, the Knights of Columbus has funded the delivery of over 100,000 brand new wheelchairs all over the world to children, teens, and adults in need of mobility, but could not afford a wheelchair. Thousands of veterans and their families across the United States who needed wheelchairs have received new mobility and honor the Knights with their thanks and prayers.

The Knights of Columbus work in partnership with the American Wheelchair Mission to provide wheelchairs to people worldwide that need them but cannot afford one.

On Thursday, September 28, 2023, the Galveston/Houston Chapter of the Knights of Columbus will deliver 150 wheelchairs to the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. That morning at 9:00 a.m. 15 pickup trucks will arrive at the St. Thomas Aquinas Church campus at 12627 W. Bellfort Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77478. The trucks will be loaded with the 150 wheelchairs and decorated for the trip to the VA Hospital. At 11:00 am a procession with the 15 trucks, 5 support vehicles, 15 motorcycles from the Liberators LE/MC and Knights on Bikes as well as police support vehicles will leave the St Thomas Aquinas Church campus. The route will head towards highway 90, onto Old Spanish Trail Blvd. and into the VA Hospital campus. We will gather in parking lot A to deliver the wheelchairs at 1:00 pm. The Knights of Columbus councils of the Galveston/Houston Diocese are part of the over 17,000 Knights of Columbus councils that make up the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded in 1882 to assist working-class and immigrant Catholics in the United States, today the approximately two million members of the Knights of Columbus put their faith into action through a broad range of charitable causes locally, nationally, and internationally through financial contributions and hands-on service.
