By Ameen Al-Bahloly Texas Knight Reporter

Vol. 2, 2024 - 2025

On August 12, 2023 in St. Mary’s Chapel at Assumption Seminary, Chapter Chaplain/Vocations Director Auxiliary Bishop Gary Janak celebrated the Blessed Father McGivney Votive Mass. He was assisted by Father Rene Lopez, Father Martin Burnham, and Msgr. Rigoberto De Guzman. Thirty-five Sir Knights served as the Honor Guard. Brother Knights participated in the liturgy in various ways--as master of ceremonies, readers, altar server, music ministry, ushers, etc. In his homily, Bishop Gary pointed out the purposes for which the Knights were established: 1) for the care of widows and orphans, and 2) the availability of ethical Catholic insurance. He also alluded to his own affiliation with the Knights since the age of 18, as a result of his parents influence. He mentioned his service of 30+ years as a parish priest in three parishes in Victoria prior to getting his appointment as Auxiliary Bishop. On an interesting note, the recessional hymn, “We Are Many Parts,” was the theme song for the 2022 Bishop Tom Flanagan Chapter Retreat.
