Eucharistic Flotilla Makes it's Way Down the Neches

By Chad M. Sandwell, Ast. Diocesan Deputy, Texas Knight Reporter

Vol. 2, 2024 - 2025

During this time of the National Eucharistic Revival, Bishop David L. Toups, from the Diocese of Beaumont, has called upon the faithful of Southeast Texas Catholics to deepen their faith in Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.

To support the three-year revival, Stella Maris-Diocese of Beaumont hosted a Eucharistic Flotilla on the Neches River with four stops along the way. At each stop, those in attendance joined Bishop Toups in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament that was adorned in a special maritime monstrance aboard the Ivory Bill. This special monstrance and its structure were created by the brothers of Orange Council #13825. Those in attendance were also encouraged to pray the rosary and pray the Novena of Our Lady Star in preparation for the feast day, which was September 23rd.
The Blessed Sacrament was accompanied on its journey down the river by Bishop David Toups, Deacon Steve Obernuefemann, Fr. Sinclair Oubre, who piloted the Ivory Bill, four seminarians from the Diocese of Beaumont and an Honor Guard of the 4th Degree Knights from the Diocese of Beaumont as well as an Honor Guard from the Knights of Peter Claver. Four private boats joined in the procession as well.
It was estimated that between 450 to 500 people attended the ceremonies at the various stopping points. Participants on shore at the 4 stops came from Knights on Bikes, Little Flower Parish Youth Group, Lamar University, Knights of Holy Sepulcher and Knights of Peter Claver
This was a wonderful event in which the Faithful of Southeast Texas were able to deepen their faith in a little different way.
Funds to make this possible were donated by several Councils and Assemblies, including Port Neches Council #2461, Bridge City Council #3406, Groves Council #3491, Livingston Council #9564, Orange Council #13825 and Groves Assembly #1100.
