The Mary Queen of Peace Assembly in Arlington conducted a Flag Retirement ceremony at St. George Catholic School in Ft Worth for Veterans Day. Honor Guard members from both Mary Queen of Peace and General Worth Assembly participated in the service. During the ceremony, students learned about the history of the flag, the rules on flying the flag and how to respect the flag. As each stripe was laid into the fire, it was announced which state that stripe represented, and the Honor Guard saluted. When it came to the “Field of Blue”, all the students stood while the four students respectfully laid it onto the fire pit. There was then a moment of silence in honor of all those who lost their life defending America and the flag. All the students then recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang the Star-Spangled Banner.

The Assembly and Honor Guard members also conducted another flag retirement ceremony during Catholic Schools Week at St. Joseph Catholic School in Arlington in January.
