KofC Council 8521 and Assembly 3439

By SK Dave Fletcher, Texas Knight Reporter

Vol. 2, 2024 - 2025

In April 2019 Arlene “Kim” Legendre (widow of Deacon Jim Legendre), wrote to the KC council asking for help in getting a monument at the gravesite headstone of Msgr. Bernard Mullaney interred in our cemetery, that would highlight the main contributions he made as pastor here (1974-1986).She also made a financial donation to the council to carry out her wish. Unfortunately, the donation and project fell through the cracks due to various council issues.

In August of this year, she wrote again to our council about resurrecting the project and her desire to show respect to Msgr. Mullaney sinking headstone and key accomplishments here at St. Joseph-Honey Creek.

Br. Eloy Uresti & Br. Dave Fletcher took on the project, contacting Arlene Legendre, designing a sample marker and meeting with her at the cemetery to review and get her acceptance. We then went for bids on the design and selected a local supplier that was able to produce it in a few weeks. In October 2024 Br. Eloy Uresti, Br. Dave Fletcher and Br. Jim Miller installed the marker. We then invited her out to view the releveled headstone and the new marker and to thank her for her contribution. She was very pleased with the result and appreciated the council in getting this bit of St Joseph-Honey Creek church history visible.
