Council 7196 in Belton has been busy this fraternal year with the goal of being more visible in our parish and our community as leaders in both faith and charity. We have participated in two separate Special Olympics events totaling approximately 67 hours of service. The most recent event was a bocce ball competition. The weather cooperated with us this time after a previous event was postponed and we were able to help facilitate the games throughout the weekend. While things may be bright on the bocce ball court, elsewhere in the country things are dark, confusing, and divisive. We need the protection and intercession of Our Lady more than ever. We hosted an America Needs Fatima rosary rally in front of the church along a busy road. Many people participated and many more saw us and our banner as we prayed. We continue to support our local maternity shelter, Our Lady of Angels Maternity Shelter in Temple, with financial contributions and have an upcoming donation drive for diapers and supplies.
In addition to our own council’s initiatives, we have supported other ministries at our parish in their events and goals. We helped our local St. Vincent de Paul council with a fundraising walk for the poor and helped the parish raise money to rebuild a Marian grotto through a LoterÃa night.
The charitable work of our council is already starting to bear fruit as we have inducted several new members in CUF ceremonies we have hosted. We have a slate of activities planned for the new year and will continue to look for opportunities to help our community as we put our faith into action.
